Former state rep. endorsed over incumbent

FAIRFIELD, Ohio -- A former state representative from Butler County got a big boost toward reclaiming his old job Tuesday night.

Courtney Combs won the Butler County Republican Party's endorsement in the 51st Ohio House District, over incumbent State Rep. Wes Retherford, the Journal-News reported.

Combs, who's also served on Hamilton City Council and the Butler County Board of Commissioners, left office at the end of 2012 because of term limits.

Retherford and Combs both agreed they wouldn't run against whoever got the party endorsement, the Journal-News reported.

The 51st District includes Fairfield, Hamilton and Ross Township.

“I’ve been in many years and I’ve been involved in a lot of campaigns and you just can’t beat talking with the constituents and the people that have the vote. And when you talk with them directly one to one, and you get their endorsement — which I did here tonight — it just means everything in the world,” Combs said.
