GEORGETOWN, Ohio – The Brown County Adult Detention Center reopened after undergoing work to fix door locks and other issues, Sheriff Dwayne Wenninger announced Wednesday.

Brown County officials closed the facility last November after learning of unsafe working conditions for deputies caused by issues with locking devices on some of the doors in the jail.

The upgrades included work on the door locking mechanisms, plumbing, sewage, HVAC system and painting, Wenninger said.

While the jail was closed, Brown County sent inmates to the Butler County Jail. Female inmates, and any male inmates beyond 68, will still be sent to Butler County, Wenninger said.
