BURLINGTON, Ky. -- A 1-year-old boy died after he was seriously injured in a crash on Camp Ernst Road in Burlington Monday afternoon, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's spokesman Tom Scheben said 30-year-old Ashley Miller was transporting two 1-year-old children in her car around 2:30 p.m. Monday when she crossed over the center line into the southbound lane of Camp Ernst Road. Miller struck a Saab driven by 19-year-old Karlie Ferguson, who was traveling southbound.

A 1-year old girl in Miller's car was taken by helicopter to Children's Hospital with serious injuries, Scheben said. The other child in the car, 1-year-old Chase Knapp, died Wednesday night.

Miller sustained minor injuries, Scheben said. Ferguson initially refused treatment but was later taken to St. Elizabeth's with minor injuries.

Scheben said the sheriff's office is still investigating the crash and no charges have been filed. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and both children were properly strapped into their carseats.

Scheben said speed and wet roads are likely factors in the crash.

Anyone with information on this crash should contact Sgt. Jason Noel of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at 859-334-3911.
