CINCINNATI — A new grant program at Cincinnati State will help address financial challenges some students face while becoming certified for in-demand jobs.

Cincinnati State offers a variety of short-term certificate programs that take a year or less to complete — but some potential students may hit a roadblock because the short-term programs don’t qualify for federal financial aid, according to a news release.

On Tuesday, the college announced it has created the Cincinnati State Short-Term Certificate Grant Program.

"Our goal is for these grants to help hundreds of local residents get started in a new career or earn a promotion where they are working," said Amy Waldbillig, Vice President of Workforce Development for Cincinnati State. "Many of the short-term certificate programs also include college credits, so students can also get a great start on working toward a degree."

The program will help students by providing tuition and fee grants of up to $1,000 and was made possible by a $349,400 grant to Cincinnati State by the Ohio Department of Higher Education.

To be eligible for a certificate grant, applicants must be Ohio residents and meet the qualifications for financial need under federal guidelines.
