MENTOR, Ky. – Six children are missing their parents and this small, quiet community is in shock after a deadly shooting here Tuesday.

John “Will” Allender, 36, is in the Campbell County jail charged with murdering his 37-year-old wife, Cheryl Allender, in their home in the 11000 block of Mary Ingles Highway.

Neighbors said they used to enjoy watching the couple's children run around the Allender property, ride bikes and come across the street to jump on the trampoline.

But their joy ended about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. That’s when police got the call. They arrived to find Cheryl dead of an apparent gunshot wound, according to the Campbell County Police Department.

Officers arrested John later in the evening. He will be arraigned in Campbell County District Court Thursday morning.

Neighbors said a small yellow church bus picked up the kids from the house after the shooting. Pastor Stuart Chowning at the Mentor Baptist Church, where the family attended services, is asking the community to keep the Allender children in their thoughts and prayers.
