CINCINNATI — ’Tis the season for schnecken. That is the opinion chef Tony Ferrari recently shared in an article about holiday food gift ideas on theFood Network's website.

The Cincinnati native, who runs the Hillside Supper Club in San Francisco, recommended giving the gooey, sweet yellow bun to friends and family this season. Ferrari specifically mentioned the Virginia Bakery brand of schnecken sold by Busken Bakery between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24 each year.

“I can smell the schnecken before I even open the box,” Ferrari told Food Network blogger Kelly DiNardo. “It’s a cinnamon bun that’s drenched in caramelized butter glaze and studded with raisins. When it would snow, we used to pick up a bunch [and] warm them up over a fire pit in the park before riding sleds down the hill. It reminds me of home and family.”

WCPO entertainment reporter Brian Mains wrote about the history of schnecken earlier this month, exploring how Busken ended up baking the famous Virginia Bakery schnecken recipe.
