CINCINNATI – Saturday was a big night for movie lovers in Cincinnati, as the Golden Globe-nominated film “Carol” debuted at the Esquire Theatre.
The movie was filmed in Cincinnati last year.
Experts say “Carol” plays a big role in Cincinnati’s growing reputation for hosting big-budget films. It also helped pump about $17 million into the local economy.

“Carol,” starring Cate Blanchett, tells the story of a wealthy socialite falling in love with a young department store clerk -- played by Rooney Mara – in 1950s New York.
The movie has been nominated for five Golden Globe awards: best dramatic picture, Blanchett for best actress in a drama, Mara for best actress in a drama, Todd Haynes for best director, and Cartner Burwell for best original score.
